Week 18
Falco slept through the night almost every night this week! He also rolled over one night towards the end of the week, but then he couldn’t do it again the next day. The chirping noise that he was making has now turned into more of a squawking, and he does it intentionally and often. |
Week 17
Falco slept through the night three times this week! He was trying very hard to roll over all week but couldn’t quite make it.
Week 16
Raspberries are so last week. This week was all about making this squeaking/chirping noise that sounds like a sneaker on a basketball court and speaking in groans and growls. Naps were still hit and miss, with some good days and some bad. His favorite activity by far this week was jumping in the Jumperoo. He was back to his happy, charming self this week and not fussy like last week. We found out that the teething was a false alarm, and his eating is back to normal.
Week 15
This week there were ups and downs. The first half of the week Falco was very fussy and not eating well. We discovered what looked like a tooth coming in, so I took him to the doctor. She said it was a tooth, but it looks like a molar, which usually doesn’t come in until much later. We had to start keeping a feeding log because the doctor was concerned about him not eating enough. During the fussy days, he wouldn’t nap well, seemed unhappy most of the day, and woke up to eat a lot at night. Luckily, towards the end of the week he started acting like himself again. He still struggles with naps, I think just because he would rather play than sleep, but he is our good old happy baby again. He started trying to do raspberries with his mouth this week, which he loves doing for several minutes at a time, and it involves a lot of spitting and drooling. It’s slightly yucky but cute and funny at the same time. This week he moved up to the next size of diapers and covers. We also got him a jumperoo at the end of this week, which he loves but needs a blanket on the floor since his toes can’t quite touch yet. All in all, the week started out rough but ended very well.
Week 14
We had some very bad days this week in terms of naps. Some days he just wouldn’t go down for naps or would only sleep for 20 minutes at a time. This made for a cranky baby and frustrated parents. He got better towards the end of the week though. If I haven’t mentioned it before, he is drooling like crazy! That started at least a month ago and is only increasing. We switched him to his convertible car seat this week, and that has helped a lot with the crying that was going on in the infant seat. Now when we take him out, he just sits in our lap instead of in his car seat. He is getting to be a big boy!
Week 13
Falco got way better at holding toys this week. He loves to grab things and put everything in his mouth. His head control has gotten very good, and he is improving in his tummy time efforts, though he still struggles with it. He loves to sit up with our help.
Week 12
Falco’s head control continued to improve this week and he started holding and mouthing toys a little. He has his hands in his mouth a lot. He loves going out and has started smiling and cooing at strangers who talk to him. He needs to be entertained a lot more nowadays and gets bored with just sitting around or doing the same thing for very long. He enjoys looking at books and being read to. His sleep greatly improved this week, and he is now taking two naps in his crib and going to bed in his crib between 6:30 and 7:30.
Week 11
This week Falco’s head control got much better. He still needs a little help, but he can hold his head pretty steady when he is held upright. We let him ride forward facing in the Baby Bjorn for the first time towards the end of the week. His napping wasn’t great this week but was starting to improve. We took him to Mel’s for the first time and he was a very good boy.
Week 10
The biggest change this week is that Falco is AWAKE a lot. The days of him sleeping through every outing are over. Now, whether he is in the stroller or the Baby Bjorn, he is likely to be wide eyed when we go anywhere. He loves to be out and about and watch everything around him. This also means that naps are tougher sometimes. He fights to stay awake, and some days he naps well and other days we’re lucky to get him to sleep for 20 minutes at a time. If I leave the room, he smiles when I come back in now. He also started holding onto my shirt when I hold him, which is very cute. He had a couple nights this week when he slept for over six hours at a stretch. Hopefully sleeping through the night is not far off! |
Week 9
Falco has been so cute this week, smiling and talking a lot. Sometimes he has to take a break from eating for a couple of minutes just to smile and tell me something. He is opening his hands more and has started touching toys a little towards the end of this week. We bumped him up to a faster flow nipple this week, which made feedings go more quickly. He started taking naps in his crib this week too. We weighed him at 9 weeks, 1 day, and he was up to 11 pounds, 14 ounces! |
Week 8
Sadly, we stopped breastfeeding towards the end of this week. When I got off the Reglan, which I was taking to increase my milk supply but couldn’t stay on continuously, Falco started refusing to nurse. He would fight and scream when I tried to breastfeed him, and my already tiny milk supply was dwindling more since he wouldn’t nurse. I had to make the decision to stop. It was tough and involved some tears on my part, but I think we will both be happier this way. On a more cheerful note, he started cooing and talking a lot this week. He is a very good and cute baby! |
Week 7
Falco was 11 pounds, 3 ounces at his doctor’s visit this week. He had to get his first vaccines, which was a dreadful experience for all involved. He started sucking on his hands this week but can’t quite get his thumb in his mouth yet. He started consistently going a 5+ hour stretch at night, from about 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. |
Week 6
Falco’s personality really started to show this week. He was all smiles throughout the day and started to coo sometimes too. Towards the end of this week Matt went back to work. It was a little hard to see him go after we had all been together for 6-1/2 weeks, but it was nice to start getting into a routine with Falco. |
Week 5
Falco went to the cardiologist this week. We had to wait there for a long time, about three hours total, and he did great. He either slept or was content to just look around. We were very proud of him! The doctor said his murmur was an innocent murmur and nothing to worry about it. He has to go back at 6 months to be sure it goes away, but the doctor said there was a better than 99% chance that it would be gone. He was 9 pounds, 15 ounces at that appointment. We still have had to try pretty hard this week to get Falco to smile, but he is doing it more often. He almost always smiles at the giraffe hanging over his changing table. |
Week 4
At Falco’s 4-week visit, he was 9-1/2 pounds. He gained a whopping 2-1/2 pounds in two weeks! We took him to the doctor because we thought he was breathing rapidly all the time and were concerned. The doctor said his breathing was OK, but she did hear a heart murmur. She thought it was an innocent murmur but wanted him checked by cardiology to be sure. This week Falco gave us his first real smile! Also, we moved him to his crib at night at the end of this week. |
Week 3
This week we went to supplementing entirely with bottles, offering the bottle after he nursed at each feeding. |
Week 2
Falco was 7 pounds at his 2-week visit. Not quite back to his birth weight but almost there. We had to increase his supplement to 2 ounces per feeding this week and started using a bottle sometimes. His umbilical cord stump fell off this week. |
Week 1
We started getting more used to having Falco at home this week. He is gaining weight now and is supplemented with 15-30 ml of formula at each feeding. We are still only supplementing at the breast with a syringe and feeding tube — no bottles yet. |
Week 0
This was Falco’s first week in the real world. He got the hang of breastfeeding just a few hours after he was born and had a very good latch. On his third day of life we started supplementing with formula at the breast because he wasn’t getting enough and was losing too much weight. He ate every 1-2 hours this week. He slept well at night from the beginning. |
