Sundays

I have always enjoyed Sundays. We can stay up late the night before and then sleep in on Sunday mornings. Matt and I go to get lunch at a nearby Chinese restaurant every Sunday, and we love that. But now I look forward to Sundays even more because it’s when a new week starts in my pregnancy. So this morning, I am now 7 weeks pregnant (which means I have been pregnant for 7 weeks and am starting my 8th week today). It’s like a little milestone every Sunday.

This week our baby will grow to over 1/2″ long. From the pictures I’ve seen, this week he or she starts looking more like a baby and less like an alien lifeform. The tail is still there though, which I think is awesome.

Out in the open

Matt and I decided tonight that we will find out the sex of the baby at our 18-week ultrasound. I am very happy about this. I can’t wait to know what variety of baby is in there, and I will be happy to be able to start using an appropriately gendered pronoun when referring to our offspring. We’ll be finding out right around Thanksgiving. That seems far away, but I know it will be here before we know it.

Arms and legs

Apparently, for the past few days our baby has had arms but no legs. By today, the little bugger should have both. The arms are developing from buds into paddles, and now leg buds have appeared. The baby is about 1/4″ long and has a heartbeat and facial features. I am now 6 weeks along, which means I’m in my 7th week of pregnancy.

I moved our first appointment to October 3rd which will be at 10 weeks because by that time we should be able to hear the heartbeat with the Doppler (an external way to hear the heartbeat without doing an ultrasound). I am really excited about this and can’t wait to hear evidence that our little one really is in there. We’re not making the big announcement until after the first appointment, so this does mean keeping our secret for an extra 2 weeks.

I’m having some mild nausea between breakfast and lunch, but it’s very tolerable. I haven’t really had any food aversions, but I have been wanting my food to be spicy. I’ve also had some mild headaches. Overall I’m still feeling good and happy and excited!
