Teeth and lies.

Murdock and Falco had big news to share within a day or two of each other. Murdock got his first tooth, and Falco lost his first baby tooth. Both events came after much anticipation, and I think both boys were relieved after their gain or loss.

This brings me to another issue: The Tooth Fairy. We’ve told Falco all along that Santa, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy, etc. were just pretend. I didn’t feel comfortable lying to him about these characters since I do my best to be honest with him at all times. This seemed all well and good until recently. Now that he’s older, if I tell other moms we’re not playing along with the charade, they look at me like I’ve betrayed them.

I didn’t really consider the possibility of Falco spoiling holidays and dental events for his friends. I have told him that other kids think the stories are true and not to ruin it for them, and he seems on board with that. If he lets the cat out of the bag though, I may need to go into a witness protection program to avoid other parents’ wrath. Matt and I really didn’t mean to break an unwritten rule of parenting, but there’s no turning back now.
