Free time.
With Falco’s naps seeming to get fewer and shorter all the time, my
free time during the day is limited. I have managed to squeeze in a
few projects lately though and thought I would share the results. I
made these new curtains a couple of weeks ago. First I made the
orange ones just to have something to make the room a little darker
for naps, but I didn’t like the way they looked with the green
gingham shades I had. So, I made the striped ones and am happy with
they way the turned out. I definitely should have backed them both
with solid white to make them less translucent, but these were my
first curtains and I didn’t realize that until they were done. I’m
sure I’ll be replacing them with robots or Power Rangers or something
in a few years, and I’ll know better then.

The next project is more useless, but I’m more excited about it. I
dyed some of Falco’s diapers and love the way they turned out. I can
only do three at a time, so I just got two colors done yesterday. I
have five more colors for the rest of his diapers. I can do the
dying in our washing machine, so it’s really easy with no mess or
cleanup. The hardest part is just having to stir them constantly for
the first 15 minutes, so I really need Falco to be sleeping or
occupied for that part. After that I just stir them intermittently
for 45 minutes and then let the washer do the work of rinsing them.
I couldn’t wait to show Matt and expected him to be impressed with my
work, but he wasn’t clear on the purpose of colored diapers. Of
course there is no purpose since the diaper needs to be completely
covered in a waterproof wrap, so it’s just for fun. I can’t wait to
see the other colors!
