No Wii for me.

Today is release day for the Nintendo Wii. I have been excited and eager to get my hands on this new console, especially with the new Zelda. The PS3 was released on Friday, and people lined up outside stores for days to get theirs on release day. Matt didn’t think there would be that kind of demand for the Wii. I found out that our local Target opened at 8:00 this morning and was handing out tickets for the Wii at 7:00. Matt figured there would only be a handful of people there that early, so we left our house at 6:45, thinking we would walk up and get a ticket with the other five dedicated people.

As we pulled up to the Target, we could see that the parking lot was awfully full for the store to be closed. When we got to the front, there was a line of people wrapped around the building, probably 100-200 people. People had lawnchairs and blankets and some of them surely had spent the night there. We laughed about how we clearly wouldn’t be getting a Wii today and left. Looking back, we should have hung around to see how many people actually got tickets and how many were turned away.

We then drove past the Best Buy to see the scene there. It was 7:00 a.m. at this point, and they were giving out tickets at 8:00 before they opened at 9:00. The Best Buy parking lot was almost full. We couldn’t actually see how long the line was because it went down the side and around the back, but suffice it to say there were a lot of people in line.

So, unfortunately, we aren’t getting a Wii today. We weren’t dedicated enough. It would have been fun to have lined up at 2:00 this morning, had that even been early enough, and been playing Zelda today. Oh well. Now I just have to stalk Amazon until they will let me order it.
