Adelaide update

Here are some better photos of Adelaide’s sleeping outfit. This thing is working out great. She never wakes me up anymore, and she is always covered up and never gets cold. Plus, she looks like a princess in it, and that’s just fun. Rosco of course wanted to be represented.

More tile.

Not much to say about today. They put up a lot more
tile, and it’s looking great. Tomorrow the toilet
goes back in permanently. We can’t wait for that!
Everything should be done Tuesday. It was originally
supposed to be done yesterday, but I think it’s worth
the wait.

Tile and paint

Today was a big day. The guys started putting up the
wall tile while I spent the day agonizing about paint
color. We ended up choosing this deep turquoise, and
I am really happy with it. The color makes me wish I
could swim in it, and that is what I was going for.

Oh, and this evening I saw that some of the tiles are
the wrong color. Turns out, Matt and I bought 1 box
of the wrong color. They are very close, so the guys
didn’t notice when they were putting them up. I only
saw it after it got dark out and the lighting was
different. Luckily, they are all at the top, and I
called the contractor about it, who said that it would
be no big deal to pop those out and replace them.

Also, these photos were taken with my new camera,
including that bonus one of Miu.

Tile!

Today was a big step for the bathroom. We have floor tile! Also, the tub was placed yesterday, and today they built the frame around it. You can see in these photos how it will be built in. You can also see where the shampoo shelf will be in the shower. Tomorrow wall tile will start. Hopefully all of the tiling will be done by Friday.

Oh, also we get to paint tomorrow night. We don’t exactly have a color yet, but I’ll pick something tomorrow. We do have ideas of course — we just haven’t decided on a final color.

The OTHER toilet.

As promised, here is a photo tour of our outhouse.
There it is. Right outside our backyard. Despite
it’s tilted nature, it feels pretty stable. As I have
mentioned before, it is flushable. That’s what makes
it the VIP unit. It’s pretty spacious, and not nearly
as bad as I imagined it would be. It’s just no fun
for those late night or early morning trips when it’s
cold and rainy and dark. It feels like camping when
we bundle up and take the flashlight out to do our
business.

A throne for the weekend.

There is only one thing to show today, but it’s a
great one. The guys did a second coat of sheetrock
taping this morning, and before they left, they set up
our new toilet for the weekend. First of all, I am so
pleased to have a toilet with running water in our own
house again. Secondly, I love this toilet! I think
it looks really, really cute.

The other great news is that our tub came in this
morning. Unfortunately, the contractors aren’t going
to pick it up until Monday morning. I guess they had
already planned on not having it today, so they didn’t
want to go get it and get started with it now.
Nevertheless, the important thing is that is here, so
that panic is over. Monday they will set the tub, cut
and hang the tile backerboard, and do some other tile
prep stuff. Then tiling starts Tuesday. I can’t
wait.

Ah, walls.

Today was an exciting one because they hung the
sheetrock, so our bathroom has walls again. Please
note in the photos that something still seems to be
missing. Something like a bathtub. They needed it
today, but it’s still not here. We are hoping that it
will be in tomorrow. If it doesn’t get here tomorrow
morning, it won’t be here until Monday morning. This
is a problem because the contractors are basically
waiting on it before they can move forward. They
can’t finish taping the sheetrock until they put the
tub in.

The good news is, they are setting up our toilet
tomorrow for us to use over the weekend. I went and
picked that baby up today. So, we’ll be living in
luxury with our toilet and plywood floor over the
weekend. Speaking of, I haven’t shared photos of the
fabulous portable toilet yet. I’ll do that tomorrow.

Plumbing and electrical.

Today the guys spent a lot of the morning cutting and
attaching a lot of little boards to the walls to even
them out. That was a lot of work, but it doesn’t look
that impressive in the photos. Then they replaced the
window and did all the plumbing and electrical work by
the end of the day.

There’s a little drama right now. Our tub was
supposed to be in Monday, and it’s still not here.
Um, they need it. I’m hoping it will come out
Thursday, and I’ll find out in the morning. Tomorrow
is sheetrock, and hopefully installation of the tub if
it comes in. Keep your fingers crossed.

A new beginning.

Not much to show in the photos today except that our
new subfloor is down. They spent the morning
replacing that floor joist, and they said everything
went fine with that. Then they did some of the
plumbing work and put in the new subfloor. Tomorrow
will be more plumbing and electrical, and I think they
are putting in the new window and starting the
sheetrock. I’ll try to remember to take more photos
during the day before they have put all their stuff in
the room to store overnight.

It begins.

First of all, sorry these photos suck. My digital
camera is just limping along because the flash doesn’t
work anymore. I ordered a new camera yesterday, and
it will be here soon. In the meantime, here are
post-demo photos taken with my handicapped camera.

It only took the guys about 4 or 5 hours to gut the
whole room and clean up the mess. It was pretty
uneventful except that they found a rotten floor
joist. They can fix it, but it will add about 3/4 of
a day of labor to the project. That will be done in
the morning. Also, they found out that our house is
built in a completely weird way. Everyone who works
on the house tells us so. Apparently the walls aren’t
actually square, and the plumbing fittings are placed
in weird places.

More to come tomorrow. After they fix the floor, the
next thing will be plumbing and electrical work.
There probably won’t be much to show for a couple of days.
