Oh, the bathing that is to come!

We’re getting our bathroom remodeled. For real this time. We’ve been talking about it for years, but we just had another meeting with the contractor yesterday. We have almost everything all picked out, and as soon as we can make the final decisions on tile, we can get the show on the road. Hopefully we can do it before the end of October.

Of course, we only have one bathroom, which makes the actual process not too pleasant. We’re getting a glorious, flushing port-a-potty (the details of which will be posted here of course), and we hope to impose on our wonderful, nice, generous, and might I say attractive friends, James and Lynne, (who may be reading this) for showering.

The whole process should take 8 days. Oh, and I can post daily photo updates here. Afterwards, I plan to spend at least 3 hours per day soaking in the tub.

This is
the very cool sink that we are going to get, and this will be our medicine cabinet. We have other stuff picked out, but those are just a couple of my favorite parts.

Worst month ever

OK, sorry to be so pathetic here, but this month is just not going well. As if miscarrying wasn’t enough bad news, this morning on my way home from having my blood drawn again for my hCG level, I got rear ended. I was at a stop light, and the guy behind me drove right into me. He was in a truck, and he hit my spare tire which bent my back door which shattered the back windshield. I took it in to a body shop, and the entire back door has to be replaced. I probably won’t get my car back until sometime next week. I’m very glad that the dogs weren’t in the car, and I’m very glad that we don’t have to pay the $2600 that it is going to cost to fix it.

I actually remembered to take a picture before taking it in.

Are you talking to me?

Adelaide was intrigued by the phone on speaker.

Needles.

I just got home from my third blood draw this week. The first one was on Monday to make sure I wasn’t rH negative which would have required some medications (I wasn’t). Wednesday I had to go have my hCG level checked to make sure it is dropping appropriately. Today I had to go have that level checked again so that they can see a trend.

Hopefully I won’t have to go back again for this after today. I want the next time I’m having my blood drawn to be for a happy reason.

Apparently I’m a thief.

Matt pointed out that the short-lived post I had with the funny cat photos was a faux pas. He said that I was stealing someone else’s intellectual property because I didn’t credit the site where I got them. So, I just blew away the whole thing. In the future, I will try not to unintentionally steal from others.

It’s over.

Well, we miscarried yesterday. It started with some light spotting Sunday afternoon that I thought was no big deal. I spoke to a nurse at my doctor’s office on Monday morning, and she had me come in for an ultrasound right away. Matt met me there. The ultrasound showed me being 2 weeks behind where I should have been, so basically the pregnancy never developed beyond 5 weeks.

Last night was very hard physically and emotionally, but I’m doing better today. Matt and I understand that these things are very common, especially for first pregnancies. We are going to take a little break, and hopefully Baby Gleeson 2.0 will be healthy and on the way soon.

Sundays

I have always enjoyed Sundays. We can stay up late the night before and then sleep in on Sunday mornings. Matt and I go to get lunch at a nearby Chinese restaurant every Sunday, and we love that. But now I look forward to Sundays even more because it’s when a new week starts in my pregnancy. So this morning, I am now 7 weeks pregnant (which means I have been pregnant for 7 weeks and am starting my 8th week today). It’s like a little milestone every Sunday.

This week our baby will grow to over 1/2″ long. From the pictures I’ve seen, this week he or she starts looking more like a baby and less like an alien lifeform. The tail is still there though, which I think is awesome.

The shopping has begun.

Here’s a brief introduction for future reference: James and Lynne are our next-door neighbors and very close friends. OK, let’s get on with the story…

Yesterday, while Matt and James were at the Habitat for Humanity build (James went in my place), Lynne and I went to Babies R Us and Baby Depot (part of a gigantic Burlington Coat Factory) to look at cribs. This crib looking turned into looking at every baby product available, and it was very, very fun. I think I know which crib I want, but of course I will have to show it to Matt and see what he thinks about it. We don’t plan to buy nursery furniture until after our 18-week ultrasound, so we have some time.

Lynne and I also tried out a wide variety of strollers. There are so many! Some of them are very huge and heavy, and they all are difficult to figure out how to fold and unfold without instructions. We managed to figure them out though, and
this one
seems to be the winner for now. It’s really the 3-dimensional fold and its lightness (relative to the other strollers) that make it so great. That and not having any plaid in sight. There are a couple of other more expensive brands of strollers with this same design, so I have to research whether or not those brands are better somehow.

At the Baby Depot they had a very wide selection of very cute and very on sale baby clothes. I got a few things that just couldn’t be passed up. I can’t wait to meet my baby and to dress him or her in the wide variety of outfits that I will have by the time the baby gets here. I also can’t wait to stop saying “him or her”…

Here’s our loot:

Out in the open

Matt and I decided tonight that we will find out the sex of the baby at our 18-week ultrasound. I am very happy about this. I can’t wait to know what variety of baby is in there, and I will be happy to be able to start using an appropriately gendered pronoun when referring to our offspring. We’ll be finding out right around Thanksgiving. That seems far away, but I know it will be here before we know it.

My aching head

I still haven’t had any morning (or afternoon or night) sickness, but I have been getting mild headaches for the past week. I had a headache yesterday from about 6:00 in the evening, and I thought it would go away overnight. This morning I woke up and it’s worse. The only thing I can take that isn’t baby poison is Tylenol, so I did so. I hope it goes away very soon. I read that headaches in pregnancy are common. Awesome.
